SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE

Message Recap

Lately, we’ve been discussing the principles of becoming a fruitful follower of Christ. The Bible tells us we will know a tree by its fruit and we want to ensure that we are being fruitful and effective followers of Christ. A few weeks ago, we laid the foundation for this series by talking about a passionate commitment to Christ. This week, Pastor Dre and Christian burgs talk about our social responsibility as Christians. Below we’ve provided their key points along with the scriptures they teach from for you to follow along.

Matthew 25:37-40:

37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You as a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’

Jesus followers seek to serve (Matthew 20:25-28) with a burdened heart for those in need and who are ostracized by society (Galatians 2:10).

Matthew 20:25-28:

25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles domineer over them, and those in high position exercise authority over them. 26 It is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant, 27 and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Galatians 2:10:

10 They only asked us to remember the poor—the very thing I also was eager to do.

We are to comfort individuals (James 1:27)

27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

We are to take responsibility within the community (Acts 2:45)

45 and they would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need.

Finally, we must maintain a Christ-like sacrificial attitude (Philippians 2:5-7)

5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and being born in the likeness of men.
