THE CURSE OF THE RESTLESS SOUL
11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth." Gen 4:11-12
THE RESTLESS SOUL IS SEARCHING BUT NEVER FINDING.
IT’S INTERESTED IN EVERYTHING BUT SATISFIED WITH NOTHING.

WHERE DO WE FIND REST FOR OUR SOULS?
OUR SOULS FIND REST IN GOD ALONE.
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. Ps 62:1
NO THING CAN GIVE INTERNAL REST LIKE THE PRESENCE OF GOD!
THE TEXT SAYS…Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matt 11:28-29
THE CALL TO SALVATION & THE COMMAND TO SURRENDER
Weary and heavy-laden = the active and passive sides of human misery.
People’s weariness comes from enduring their burdens
The Promise He Declares – “rest” = “quietness, calmness, peace, refreshment.”
All those who come to Jesus are given rest.
We are given peace with God
Rest from our attempts to please God
Calmness concerning our salvation
Quietness about our future
Refreshment for our journey
If you want rest, come to Jesus!
We Must Surrender To A Person
Jesus wants us to surrender to His control in our lives.
He desires that we bow to His authority.
We Must Surrender To A Partnership
Jesus is saying, “Get in the yoke with me.”
He is not calling us to walk alone;
He is calling us to walk with Him.
HOW DO WE FIND REST IN GOD?
BE STILL BEFORE GOD.
Be still, and know that I am God… Ps 46:10
But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. Ps 131:2
Bills to pay, yard to mow, dinner to make, diapers to change
Don’t have time to be still—you don’t have time NOT to be still!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WAIT FOR GOD.
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him… Ps 37:7
Don’t like to wait for anything. Don’t know how to wait.
Give me patience and give it to me now!
5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning… Ps 130:5-6
What do you want to say to me?
What do you want to show me?
What do you want to do in me?
REFLECT ON GOD’S GOODNESS.
Tempted To Think About All I Have To Do—Think Of All God Has Done
7 Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. 8 For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling
Ps 116:7-8
Soul From Death, Eyes From Tears, Feet From Stumbling
It Is Well, With My Soul!
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. Ps 23:1-3
