Fan or Follower?
Hey friends! Jesse and Marissa here! Have you guys ever been to a party with a really dope DJ? They are playing all the hits. Everyone is dancing, really feeling it. Suddenly, they start playing NBA Youngboy, Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, and everyone loses it. Mainly, one of your friends takes it upon themselves to make TikToks to every one of the songs by YB because DUH, he knows all of the words. It’s obvious he's a super fan! You can tell, and there's no doubt about it. The rest of the crowd is vibing, they see it too but just keep talking. Well, there's clearly a difference between being a huge fan and just someone who listens to a particular musician.
In the same way, there is a difference between being a fan of the Christian faith and truly being a follower of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian includes accepting and believing in Jesus as our savior. Being a follower of Christ means a lifestyle of living out our salvation by obeying and following God. In John 8:31, Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine."
We have a lot of Christians in the room but very few followers of Christ. Why is that? When people see you in a crowd, can they tell who you are a fan of, or are you just vibing to blend in? As followers of Christ, we want it to be evident who we serve and love. Your life should be so intertwined with the Word of God that there is no doubt of what you stand for. Continuing in HIs word, reading and learning how scripture related to our lives is a lot like knowing the lyrics to your favorite song.
Today we ask you to reflect on what you represent and who your TikTok expresses you to be. Are you hardcore for Jesus or vibin' with the world? When looking at your home, do you reflect on the priorities of the world or Jesus? Talk about it as a family and think of ways to make Jesus a part of your daily life rather than a Sunday special.
We love you so much, are praying for you, and look forward to hearing from you soon!
