Hey, y'all!

How is everyone doing? Did you have a good weekend? Jesse and I got to enjoy a slower Sunday this weekend. Jesse hurt his ankle, so my Friday and Saturday were terribly busy getting errands done on my own. At the end of the night on Saturday, a friend asked me to hang out, but I had to intentionally decline so that I could focus on my home and my husband. Trust me, I was so tempted to go out after a long week and just enjoy my friends' company, but that wasn't my priority at the moment. There will always be time for that later. I was glad I decided to come home to clean my house and make sure I was there for Jesse if he needed anything. If I hadn't declined, I would have spent Sunday cleaning and catching up instead of spending quality time with my husband.

Have you ever had to turn down something you wanted to do because you know you have other responsibilities? Maybe it's turning down going to a game because you have homework or a sleepover. After all, you have chores and church the next day. It's always hard, but the reward of handling your business is far better than an evening out. If you don't deliberately pull away from the extra events, you'll end up so off track. In our walk with Christ, that's what we have to do as well. We have to, in Pastor Dre's words, deliberately detach from all things that are distractions. We have to say no to some stuff to stay on track. We have to say no to going to the game so we can do our homework so that ultimately we pass our class. Our head has to stay focused on that school work because when we let those distractions take us away momentarily time and time again, they will end up consuming us entirely.

I invite you to allow Jesus to consume you this week. Before you move, ask God if this is the right path. Before you speak, ask God if these words will be fruitful or hurtful. Before you make plans, ask God how He wants you to use your time. Before you pick up a book or your phone, read a daily scripture or listen to the message from Pastor Dre and Pastor Shawn. You have to detach from the distractions to make sure you follow through on what is essential and life-giving. The end result is far better than any joy this world can provide! Let Jesus be life-giving to you this week!
