Hey friends!
We pray that yall had a great week off with your loved ones. We love this time of year not only because we get multiple breaks like you but also because we spend so much time with our siblings. We are especially excited about our annual sibling pajama party that coming up. Somehow the tradition has started that someone brings nerf guns as a white elephant gift, and we have an all-out war. Usually, we take turns playing with the nerfs and have a good laugh. This year we decided to go all out, and everyone will come equipped with a nerf. We are excited, nervous for things to break, but mostly excited, hahaha!
Jesse spent quite some time doing his research online and in the store to make sure he found the perfect Nerf. Once he did, we ordered them online and picked them up the same day. He was so excited and completely ready to destroy our siblings. Later that evening, a friend came over with a few thank you gifts for us. We had done her favor this past week, and part of her thank you gifts was actually a set of Nerf guns. We were super shocked, and we chuckled since we had already done all that work. We were so grateful. I looked at him once our friend left and said, "well, it looks like I can return the ones we bought.". He said, look, we are not hurting for $15. Let's keep them, and that way, we can give them to someone who might need them the day of or to any of our nephews. I'm sure someone would really enjoy this gift rather than us just getting 15 back.
When pastor was talking about how when we are thankful, we are giving, I thought of this. Yes, I know it's just a toy. It's something small, but because Jesse felt loved, thankful, and appreciative, he was able to have space in his heart to decide to give. Rather than be stingy or to be greedy and say he's gonna keep all of the nerfs. It's little moments like these that can make a change in someone's day. It's a chain reaction, really. From our friend's grateful heart, she gave, creating an opportunity for Jesse to be thankful and give, to hopefully someone else who will be moved to give as well.
Have you found some moments where you could have been giving instead of keeping to yourself? As we continue in this holiday season that the media turns into a greedy time of buying tons of gifts and hoping that you get just as many, take a moment to be thankful for all that you already have. Don't walk into the holidays with an expectant posture to receive tons of stuff. Walk into the season with the posture of someone ready to give rather than prepared to accept. God wants you to move in the space of abundance. Fully trusting Him to provide so that you can provide to others. We pray that an opportunity arises and that you're praying for the same. Start a domino reaction in the people closest to you and see God show up! We want to hear about these moments on Instagram or our next Students Meetup!
We love you!
