Take Control

Hey friends!

We have missed chatting with you these past few weeks. This message comes right on time for Jesse and me. I hope it's been a blessing and a wake-up call for you too. We decided to not let anything keep us from our purpose this week. You! Yes, you are our purpose! Getting to share Jesus with you is our privilege. Personally, we are in a hard season where we are grieving and so very distracted. Have you ever felt like you were in a season of sadness? It's ok to grieve, but we can't let it consume us to where we are not functioning in our purpose. "You can't get up looking down"-Pastor Dre.

How many of you set goals for yourself? Maybe you write them down weekly or stay up late as your mind races about all the things you could have done that day. Jesse will mentally make a list, and I like to check things off on paper. Part of my mindful to-do list is not picking my phone up and scrolling as soon as I open my eyes. I make the best effort to talk to God in the morning, ride with no music on my way to work, and meditate on what God has for me that day. Sometimes I get totally distracted when I hear that ping from my phone alerting me from Instagram or a text. Sometimes I get sucked into a hashtag, and I obsessively scroll the whole morning, and before I know it, work is starting. It happens to all of us. Sadly, it's such a setback to my day. It changes my mood and distracts me from accomplishing bigger projects.

Maybe social media isn't what is distracting you today. Maybe you're emotionally drained, maybe you're going through some heartache, maybe home doesn't feel like home right now. There are so many things that can be thrown at us daily that can keep us from functioning in our purpose. You're thinking, "I'm not choosing this distraction that came into my life!" and I totally get that. We both get it. We may have no control over what distracted us, but we do get to decide how we function as we heal. If we all don't take control of what we allow and how long we allow something to hold us back, they will continue to depict our mood and make us stagnant.

Today we choose to heal in faith and in purpose. Today we choose to set our eyes on the path God has for us, to learn from this season, and to continue sharing Jesus despite it all. We invite you to keep on trying, to take control of your time, and to take control of your healing. We know it's hard, but we also know you can do it. Think about your purpose. What has God called you to do, and how can you use your time better to make it happen? How can your brokenness help you understand your purpose better? Don't let these things hold you down. Don't stretch yourself thin for everything and everyone other than what you've actually been called to do. Even if you get distracted, try again.

We can't wait to talk to you next week as we are in this fight together! Praying for peace in your life and for your loved ones!

Jesse and Marissa
