The G.O.A.T.
Hello friends!
We hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend with your family. Can we all just take a breath together after that message? WHOA! Felt heavy over here! When I think about community and what it's meant for, I think of a team. I think of the NBA and particularly Kobe Bryant. The GOAT! Did you know he scored 60 points in his final game, and it was the most points scored in a single game in 2016? He holds the record for the most career points scored by a Los Angeles Laker. He won 5 NBA championships with the LA Lakers. He spent most of his childhood in Italy, where his father played professional ball, and he played lots of soccer. So many amazing things to say about Kobe and all that he accomplished. Every moment of his life, he was surrounded by a team of people who believed in him, who rallied around him, who cried and rejoiced with him through every season. He couldn't have done it all alone, and I'm sure he would have said that himself. In his childhood, his community impacted the greatness he would show the world as he became an adult in the NBA.
Our community is our championship team. It is the people who will rally around us in hardship and celebrate joy with us. They are going to hold us accountable and carry us when we are weak. So if it's all so great, why is it so hard to accept the community? Pastor Dre talked about deeper-rooted issues that cause our surface pain. What about your surface pain is deeply rooted in the hurt that makes you closed off? Why can't you trust others? Why can't you accept help or even admit you need it? These are questions to think about as we process this week's sermon. This isn't a situation where you come up with the answer and then apply it and be fixed once. This is a day-by-day process.
Everything we allow in affects our deep-rooted issues more. We have to filter what we are letting in that stops us from living with Kingdom-minded folks. I urge you this week to think about what is stopping you from being a part of the winning team. Why won't you let yourself be great? There is potential in you to be the GOAT if only you allow yourself to be cheered on there. We will see you at the next movement meetup and can't wait to win with you!
Love,
Jesse and Marissa
